Originally designed for the illumination of transflective and transmissive Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD’s) the use of LED’s for backlighting has diversified to encompass a wide range of new applications.

A spectrum of colours are available in two basic constructions:
Chip On Board modules have the LED chips in a matrix arrangement placed directly beneath a diffuser surface and provide a bright, even, illumination. Modules are easily terminated via two pins.

Side emitting backlights have the LED’s placed along the sides or/and edges of a cast or machined acrylic light guide. Side emitting types offer the latest blue and white LED light sources and contain an efficient primary reflector on the underside.

Both constructions have a long life expectancy due to the high reliability of the LED’s.

Custom backlights are also offered to customer specification with low cost tooling.
